[Open] Work Experience and Fine Furniture Hardware

I don't know if anyone can help me

Bit of background:
18 months ago I took the decision to trade my role as MD of an Advertising Media Agency for the pleasures of Fine Woodworking by signing up for a course at the Worshipful Carpenter's Company's Building Crafts College in East London. You may or may not have read a few articles that have mentioned me (Sunday Times, New Woodworker and possibly one due out in Furniture and Cabinet Making - depends on whether it makes the edit)

I am now a year through the 2 year course and simply loving it - the only regret being that I didn't take this decision some time ago.

There is so much I would love to discuss and learn from anyone who is willing to talk to me but for now I have just 2, all be it quite contrasting, questions:

 The Questions:

1) The first is that I am very keen to gain some work experience during my half term and end of term breaks in the new year (one or two weeks at a time). I know you are probably all glazing over right now as the last thing you need is someone getting in your way while you are working but all I am after is the chance to experience a Cabinet Making business in operation. I do appreciate your commercial imperatives, having run one myself, and might even be able to give something back in the way of Marketing advice.

I currently live in London so practically it would be good to be able to commute (up to lets say one and a half hours) but would consider any offers as I do have relatives/friends in different parts of the country where I could stay.

2) This is really a supplier information request: I have just made a walnut and spalted beech dovetail box and am having real difficulty finding good quality hardware for it, particularly a lock or catch that will fit into a 10mm thickness box side. I have searched high and low for suppliers of this type of small quality hardware but can only find US companies. Can anyone point me in the right direction.

I do appreciate your time and help

Kind regards
